Under the guidance of the Director of Government Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility, the Social Purpose Specialist will plan and execute Wawa's social purpose strategy, build key relationships, and advance Wawa's social purpose goals. S/he will be responsible for creating, implementing, and monitoring cohesive strategies,and objectives with internal and external partners, , focusing on reducing food insecurity. minimizing food waste and supporting sustainability initiatives aligned with legislative requirements.
Principal Duties:
Plan for, maintain and advance the Social Purpose strategy by identifying goals and programs that positively impact associates and the communities the Company serves. Assess Social Purpose goals and align them to the Company's strategies. Support the integration of Social Purpose into the Company's decision-making process. Focus on improving data collection, project tracking, and validation for Social Purpose projects. Develop goals and metrics for defining program success, taking tangible and intangible benefits into consideration. Serve as the Company's Social Purpose subject matter expert. Serve as a hub for Social Purpose current and future insights regarding industry standards, best practices, regulatory trends and emerging issues that are important to the Company's customers. Synthesize Social Purpose data and publications into a succinct, concise format for ongoing distribution to senior management and the Board of Directors. Communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding Social Purpose strategy and initiatives, including, but not limited to, Marketing, Government Relations, Public Relations, Strategy, Supply Chain and Facilities teams, as well as The Wawa Foundation. Oversee and govern strategies and Wawa, Inc. programs addressing food insecurity and food waste. Identify opportunities to pilot new approaches that support food insecurity and food waste initiatives. Participate in industry organizations and represent Wawa.
Essential Functions:
Advanced project management skills with experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects; hands-on implementation experience required Proven ability to work independently as well as in a team environment Lead and facilitate stakeholder engagement Strong consultation, facilitation, and presentation skills Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate complex and varied information to all levels of the organization including Management Committee and Senior Leadership Highly collaborative spirit as well as strong team and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with all levels of the Company Passionate about Social Purpose with an understanding of its impact on the Company's brand and business Able to act as a liaison with external third parties on Social Purpose issues Analyze information and effectively propose solutions Handle multiple priorities simultaneously
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree preferred; MBA a plus Minimum of five to six years of professional and retail experience. Demonstrated commitment (through professional or volunteer activities) General understanding of Social Purpose programs, standards, etc. preferred Understanding of food insecurity and food waste issues that impact our business and the communities we serve.
