Job Description

The Department of Mass Communication at Midwestern State University invites applications for a faculty position in digital media to beginAugust 2026. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, benefits-eligible position. Thedepartment offers a variety of courses across the discipline leading to a broad mass communication degree with specialized concentrations.

We are highly student-oriented, and faculty are expected to be accessible to the students. Our students, faculty and alumni have won majorawards at the state, regional and national levels. Midwestern State University is centrally located between Dallas and OklahomaCity in Wichita Falls (population 103,000). MSU, a Texas public university with nearly 5,300 students, is small enough to be personal butlarge enough to offer students considerable opportunities. MSU is a proud member of the Texas Tech University System.
Duties:
The successful candidate will teach courses such as Web Site Design, Internet and Society, Social Media, Multimedia/Emerging Media, Data forCommunicators, and Publication Design, and may be assigned to teach other courses in the major as needed. The successful candidate will alsoserve as an academic adviser; encourage students from all majors to participate in departmental extracurricular activities such as studentmedia and internships; maintain a record of scholarly activities commensurate with rank; actively recruit; engage in other departmental,university and community service; develop relationships with area professionals; be a positive representative of the department both on andoff campus; and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
A master's degree in mass communication or arelated field, and substantial professional experience in a media-related field, is required for the rank of instructor on non-tenure track.

A doctorate or terminal degree in mass communication or a related field is required for the rank of assistant professor on tenure track.

Related teaching experience, especially at the undergraduate level, is required (full-time teaching experience is preferred but we will alsoconsider those with experience teaching as a graduate assistant).
Preferred Qualifications :
In addition to the requiredqualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: experience in teaching other coreclasses such as Mass Media and Society, Film Appreciation and introductory writing courses; experience in academic advising; experience withrecruiting; or experience with journalism, video and/or multimedia production.
