S.T.A.R STUDENT INTERNSHIP ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
•Communication & Community Engagement
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
Performs entry-level to intermediate clerical and administrative support tasks as part of a structured internship experience. Assists with a variety of office, communication, and organizational duties while gaining hands-on workplace skills. Work is completed under the supervision of a coordinator, mentor, or department director, with ongoing guidance and feedback. This role emphasizes skill development in communication, organization, technology, and professionalism. Duties may involve sedentary and light physical activities, use of standard office equipment, and participation in meetings, events, and collaborative tasks. This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions. To succeed in the role of a student intern, candidates must be willing to positively receive and acknowledge feedback and positive criticism as they work toward developing a skill set specifically geared for the trade of their choice. Students will be reintroduced to the Virginia Department of Education 5 C's which are critical thinking, creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and citizenship skills. Through the application of these concepts across various career pathways, students will be equipped with the tools needed to successfully transition into the workforce or post-secondary education. All candidates will need to complete the online training before starting the internship. Students may gain entry level high quality work based learning experiences on the following

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated with Assist in planning and executing community events such as career fairs, open houses, and recognition ceremonies Capture photos and videos of school activities for promotional use Support social media content creation, scheduling, and analytics tracking Help design flyers, brochures, and digital marketing materials Maintain databases of community partners, volunteers, and event participants Respond to community inquiries and provide accurate information about programs and services Assist with internal communications to ensure staff are informed of initiatives and updates Coordinate logistics for meetings, workshops, and public engagement sessions Support branding and messaging consistency across all communication platforms Collect and analyze feedback from stakeholders to improve outreach efforts Promote student achievements, staff recognition, and school highlights Assist with website updates and ensure accessibility of information

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and secretarial techniques; thorough knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic; thorough knowledge of agency programs and policies; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to make arithmetical calculations; ability to meet the public effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and the general public; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school including or supplemented by courses in typing and some clerical and secretarial experience.
