Job Description

Job Title:
Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler plays a key role in a structural steel manufacturing facility by safely transporting and organizing materials throughout the production environment. You will operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and related equipment to move materials efficiently between indoor and outdoor areas, while closely collaborating with production teams to maintain a smooth workflow and uphold a strong safety culture. Responsibilities Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling machinery to transport materials safely and efficiently throughout the facility. Assist with loading and unloading materials from trucks, storage areas, and production lines. Organize, stage, and relocate materials in both the air-conditioned production bay and outdoor yard to support continuous production flow. Collaborate closely with welding teams, machine operators, supervisors, and other departments to coordinate material movement and ensure a smooth workflow. Use material handling tools and systems, such as RF scanners, to track inventory, picking, and production materials as needed. Support general labor and production tasks related to material handling within a structural steel manufacturing environment. Communicate clearly and consistently with team members and leadership regarding the status and progress of daily tasks. Follow and enforce all safety protocols and procedures, maintaining safety as the highest priority at all times. Inspect equipment before use and report any issues or hazards to maintain a safe and reliable work environment. Work both indoors and outdoors, adapting to changing conditions while maintaining productivity and safety. Essential Skills Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes or a strong willingness to learn and become proficient. Demonstrated commitment to safety as the top priority in all tasks and operations. Effective communication skills, including the ability to provide clear progress updates and coordinate with multiple teams. Physical capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, moving, and positioning materials in indoor and outdoor settings. Experience or familiarity with material handling in a structural steel or industrial manufacturing environment. Ability to work in a production setting that includes general labor, inventory handling, and support for welding and machine operating teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior overhead crane experience is a plus. Forklift experience is a plus, though not strictly required for consideration. Experience with RF scanners for inventory tracking and material picking is beneficial. Background in steel manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, or structural steel production is advantageous. Work Environment This role is based in a large structural steel production facility in El Mirage, AZ, with approximately 50% of the work performed in an air-conditioned production bay and 50% outdoors. You will work closely with welding teams, machine operators, and other production staff in a highly collaborative environment focused on seamless operations and safety. The position involves regular use of forklifts, overhead cranes, RF scanners, and other industrial material handling equipment. The work is physically active and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions when working outside, while the indoor bay provides a climate-controlled environment to support comfort and productivity. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Mirage, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.45 - $22.15/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
