Job Description

Location:
Mechanicsville, VA (suburban Richmond area) Position type: Locum tenens; coverage for a high-volume Maternal-Fetal Medicine practice focused on high‑risk obstetrics in clinic and inpatient settings. Schedule & call
Clinic:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:15 PM Weekday call: nightly coverage Weekend call: 24-hour coverage (weekends required)
On-call:
weekdays and weekends Clinical practice Average scheduled patients per day (mandated): 27 Case mix: ~95% high-risk pregnancies, 5% low-risk
Nursery:
Level III EMR:
Epic, Viewpoint Primary responsibilities Provide outpatient and inpatient evaluation, consultation, and ongoing management of high‑risk maternal and fetal patients Perform diagnostic procedures and interpret results; manage complex pregnancies and emergencies Participate in weekday and weekend call coverage for urgent/emergent MFM needs Collaborate with OB/GYNs, neonatology, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in the EMR Required procedures & clinical skills Amniocentesis Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) Cerclage (preferred) Management experience with: Pre‑eclampsia and hypertensive disorders Multiple gestations Fetal growth restriction Chromosomal/congenital/genetic abnormalities Preterm labor Thrombophilia Birth defects and complex maternal/fetal comorbidities Experience assisting/performing vaginal and cesarean deliveries in high‑risk settings Qualifications Board Certified or Board Eligible in Maternal-Fetal Medicine Completion of an accredited MFM fellowship Active Virginia medical license (or ability to obtain) BLS certification AIUM certification Facility/context High‑volume MFM practice with access to Level III nursery and interdisciplinary support teams.
