To apply, a candidate must have or be eligible to obtain a current Alaska Teacher Certificate issued by the Alaska Department of Education with an endorsement in Mathematics and Science or equivalents. The ability to teach content at the secondary grade levels is preferred. An understanding of appropriate learning activities for middle school grade level students and high school grade level students is essential. Must be energetic, nurturing, and have a positive approach to classroom activities and students. Experience teaching using Direct Instruction is preferred. Effective communication skills are required. The ability to follow specific curriculum scope and sequences is critical while teaching the whole class as a group. Must be willing to continue learning and pursue opportunities for additional training. This charter school focuses on Direct Instruction as a core instructional strategy. The position requires candidates to teach using Direct Instruction.JOB DESCRIPTION
The teacher will primarily be responsible for providing students in secondary grade levels with appropriate educational activities in mathematics and science. They must work with students to proactively plan and implement positive, consistently utilized classroom management techniques that result in behavior that enhances learning, safety, and the well-being of others. They must plan and work cooperatively with peers, students, and parents. Must have excellent computer skills and be able to employ district computer programs to post grades and communicate with parents. Requires a willingness to teach in an online blended format and provide remote services to students using various technology-based platforms. Must be willing to participate on school committees and work collaboratively with colleagues in a positive manner. The teacher will work under the supervision of the building administrator and complete other duties as assigned.CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to utilize Direct Instruction as a core instructional strategy as outlined in the Aurora Borealis Charter. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.Physical Demands:
