MDS Coordinator

Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented MDS (Minimum Data Set) Coordinator to join our dedicated healthcare team. In this vital role, you will oversee the comprehensive assessment process for our residents, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with federal and state regulations. Your expertise will directly impact the quality of care and reimbursement processes, contributing to our facility's success and resident well-being. Duties Coordinate and complete the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process, including the development and review of the MDS assessments in accordance with CMS guidelines. Ensure timely submission of MDS assessments, care plans, and other required documentation within regulatory deadlines. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members—including nursing staff, physicians, social workers, and therapy providers—to gather accurate clinical data. Conduct thorough reviews of medical records, documentation, and coding (including

ICD-10/ICD-9, CPT

) to ensure accuracy and completeness. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal regulations such as Medicare requirements, NCQA standards, and state-specific guidelines for skilled nursing facilities. Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth to document assessments and manage resident data efficiently. Support quality improvement initiatives through clinical documentation improvement (CDI) strategies and utilization review processes. Requirements Proven experience with MDS coordination in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting. Strong knowledge of CMS regulations, Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement systems, and NCQA standards. Familiarity with clinical coding including

ICD-10/ICD-9, CPT

coding, DRGs, and utilization management principles. Experience working with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or comparable platforms. Background in nursing, healthcare administration, or health information management; nursing home or hospital experience preferred. Critical care or ICU experience is highly desirable; knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology is essential. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for documentation review and compliance monitoring. Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team while maintaining HIPAA confidentiality standards. Pay:

$33.81 - $40.72 per hour
