Meat Department Sanitation & Service Clerk Riverside Red X - 2.6 Riverside, MO Job Details Part-time | Full-time From $16 an hour 7 hours ago Qualifications Customer communication Pre-cooking preparation Floor cleaning chemicals English Attention to detail Materials handling Industrial chemical handling Full Job Description Osition Summary The Meat Department Sanitation & Service Clerk is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and closing procedures within the meat department while supporting daily department operations and customer service. This position plays a key role in ensuring all meat department equipment, prep areas, dishes, tools, service counters, and workspaces remain clean, safe, organized, and compliant with company food safety and sanitation standards. This position also assists with customer service responsibilities including operating the service counter, wrapping and packaging meat products, assisting customers, and properly cleaning and shutting down the service counter at the end of the day. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Wash, sanitize, and organize dishes, trays, tubs, pans, utensils, cutting boards, knives, and other department tools used by meat cutters and department staff Clean and sanitize meat department equipment including slicers, grinders, saws, wrappers, sinks, prep tables, scales, counters, and cutting areas according to company and food safety standards Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep rooms, coolers, freezers, sinks, floors, drains, walls, service counters, and work areas throughout the shift Assist with wrapping, packaging, labeling, weighing, and stocking meat products according to company standards Operate wrapping machines, scales, labeling equipment, and service counter equipment safely and accurately Assist with closing duties including cleaning and shutting down equipment, service counters, prep areas, and department workspaces Properly clean, sanitize, and shut down the meat service counter at the end of the day Remove trash, cardboard, and department waste while maintaining a clean and safe work environment Operate dishwashing and sanitation equipment safely and according to procedures Follow all food safety, sanitation, health department, and workplace safety guidelines Assist customers at the service counter by answering questions, packaging products, weighing items, and providing friendly customer service Package, stock, rotate, and replenish meat products and service case items as needed Monitor service counter cleanliness, product presentation, and department appearance throughout the shift Assist meat cutters and department staff with daily operational needs Help maintain proper inventory of cleaning supplies, packaging materials, labels, and department supplies Assist with unloading deliveries, organizing backstock, and maintaining cooler and freezer organization when needed Follow proper lifting, cleaning chemical handling, equipment operation, and hazard identification procedures Assist in other departments or areas of the store when requested by management Perform additional duties, projects, and assignments as directed by supervisors or management Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older Previous sanitation, cleaning, food service, meat department, restaurant, or grocery experience preferred but not required Strong work ethic with willingness to perform physically demanding cleaning and stocking tasks daily Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while staying organized and productive Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong attention to detail and cleanliness standards Reliable attendance, punctuality, flexibility, and professionalism required Good communication and customer service skills Ability to read and write in English, including reading labels, cleaning instructions, safety information, product labels, and department procedures Ability to safely operate department equipment after training and certification Ability to identify sanitation concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, and food safety issues Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds Ability to bend, twist, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift Ability to work in wet, cold, and fast-paced environments including coolers and prep areas Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals, sanitation equipment, dishwashing equipment, wrapping machines, and meat department tools Ability to safely handle wet surfaces, sharp tools, heavy tubs, trays, meat products, and cleaning equipment Ability to push and maneuver carts, racks, trash containers, and stocking equipment safely Work Environment Fast-paced meat department and retail environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities Frequent exposure to refrigeration, coolers, moisture, cleaning chemicals, grease, food preparation environments, and varying temperatures Frequent interaction with customers, vendors, delivery drivers, and team members Work performed in prep rooms, dishwashing areas, coolers, freezers, service counters, sales floor areas, and receiving areas Frequent use of cleaning equipment, sanitation supplies, wrappers, scales, dishwashing equipment, and meat department tools Flexible scheduling required, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and closing shifts Must follow all company safety, sanitation, food safety, and health department regulations at all times Expectations Maintain a positive attitude and professional appearance Treat customers and team members with respect and professionalism Maintain department cleanliness, food safety, and sanitation standards at all times Work efficiently while maintaining quality, urgency, and department standards Follow direction from supervisors and management Maintain a clean, safe, and customer-focused shopping environment Support department operations and contribute to overall department success
