Non-Exempt (Hourly) Position Summary The Mechanic in the Logistics Department at Tarter USA is responsible for performing diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on the company's fleet, trailers, and yard equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transportation and fulfillment operations. This role supports the Logistics team by minimizing equipment downtime and maintaining a safe and compliant fleet. Key Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, and repair company trucks, trailers, and yard equipment. Perform preventive and routine maintenance, including: Oil changes, brakes, tires, and general mechanical repairs DOT-related inspections and readiness support Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues. Conduct safety inspections and ensure all equipment is in safe operating condition. Maintain accurate service and repair records. Support fleet compliance efforts by ensuring equipment meets safety and regulatory standards. Respond to breakdowns and urgent repair needs in a timely manner. Coordinate parts, tools, and supply needs with the Director of Logistics. Keep the garage clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Work closely with the Logistics team to minimize downtime and maximize fleet availability. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Logistics. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. 2+ years of experience as a mechanic, preferably with fleet, diesel, or heavy equipment.
Working knowledge of:
Truck and trailer systems Mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems Preventive maintenance programs Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues efficiently. Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and maintenance documentation. Basic computer skills for maintenance logs and records. Preferred Qualifications Diesel mechanic experience. ASE certifications or similar technical training. Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or logistics environment. Welding or fabrication experience is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various physical positions throughout the day. Ability to work in a garage, yard, and warehouse environment. Work Environment Garage and yard environment. Exposure to noise, grease, machinery, weather conditions, and industrial equipment.
