Job Description
Summary Repairs and overhauls automobiles, buses, trucks, and other automotive vehicles by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnosis and repair mechanical issues with agency buses, vans, cars, etc.
- Performs work in safe and efficient manner, observing cost-savings measures
- Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle
- Removes, rebuilds, and/or replaces units such as engine, transmission, or differential, etc.
- Disassembles unit and inspects for wear; repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, bearings, etc.
- Overhauls or replaces parts and equipment such as blowers, generators, distributors, starters and pumps
- Adjusts brakes, repairs or replaces suspension parts
- Replaces and adjusts headlights, installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, windshield wipers, etc.
- Performs routine maintenance of vehicles, including service, inspection and repair
- Responds to road calls of broken or damaged vehicles; assist with towing and/or emergency operations
- Assist other Mechanics, Shop Foreman and Maintenance Supervisor with needed repairs and tasks
- Communicate with Dispatch regarding vehicle mechanical and safety issues.
- Assist with snow and debris removal, as needed
- Utilizes proper procedures to account for parts and equipment use per policy or direction. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. - One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills

- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability

- Any software utilized for maintaining and repairing agency vehicles.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Preferred:
Current Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement. Candidates without this credential will still be considered but must obtain a CDL with Passenger Endorsement within six month of hire. Must obtain and maintain a valid DOT physical card Other Skills and Abilities Must be able to work a variety of schedules including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required. Must keep shop neat, orderly and free of safety hazards at all times. Other Qualifications Must have extensive knowledge of:- Maintenance and operation of buses and other company vehicles
- Diagnosis and repair vehicle malfunctions, including methods, materials, tools; including welding procedures
