Job Title:
Mechanic Job Description This full-time Mechanic role focuses on performing preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and repairs on diesel and gas-powered vehicles and equipment in an in-house shop environment. You will work on key systems such as brakes, tires, electrical and air systems, suspensions, and hydraulic components, ensuring all equipment operates safely and efficiently. The position offers consistent 40+ hour workweeks with overtime opportunities, access to healthcare and retirement benefits, and the use of company-provided tools and equipment. Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance on diesel and gas-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. Conduct DOT inspections in compliance with applicable regulations and document findings accurately. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using troubleshooting techniques, schematics, and blueprints. Repair and replace components on brakes, tires, electrical systems, air systems, suspensions, and hydraulic systems. Disassemble and reassemble equipment and assemblies to repair or replace non-functioning parts. Perform brake repairs, oil changes, and other routine service tasks on a variety of on-road and off-road construction equipment. Use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively to complete repairs and maintenance tasks. Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all work performed on vehicles and equipment. Keep the shop area clean, organized, and safe, following established safety procedures and guidelines. Collaborate with project managers, field teams, and leadership to prioritize work and support commercial and residential projects. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years of mechanic experience working on vehicles or heavy equipment. Hands-on experience troubleshooting and replacing air brake systems. Experience working with hydraulic systems, including diagnosing and repairing leaks, components, and controls. Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems using schematics and basic diagnostic tools. Experience working with diesel engines and off-road construction equipment. Ability to perform brake repairs, oil changes, and routine preventive maintenance. Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation. Proficiency using power tools and hand tools for mechanical repairs. Valid chauffeur's license or willingness to obtain one. Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose mechanical issues efficiently. Ability to maintain accurate maintenance and repair records. Commitment to working safely in a shop environment and following established safety procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus. Experience supporting both commercial and residential construction projects is beneficial. Familiarity with DOT regulations and inspection requirements is advantageous. Strong communication skills for working with project managers, field teams, and leadership. Ability to work overtime and flexible hours, including some weekends, based on project workload. You will use a variety of power tools, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment while following established safety procedures. The work involves hands-on mechanical tasks in a structured shop setting that supports projects across Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Macomb, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
