Mechanic Trainee
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Department: Maintenance / Manufacturing
Location: Mississippi Industries for the Blind, Jackson, MS 39216
Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and mechanically inclined Mechanic Trainee to join our maintenance team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude and a desire to build a long-term career in industrial equipment maintenance. Prior experience with industrial sewing machines or manufacturing equipment is not required; comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist senior mechanics with preventive maintenance, repair, and adjustment of production equipment, including industrial sewing machines
• Learn proper installation, setup, calibration, and operation of industrial machinery
• Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and general upkeep of machinery
• Respond to minor equipment issues during production
• Troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues under supervision
• Install new or replacement equipment
• Maintain maintenance and repair logs
• Maintain and secure tools and equipment
• Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout
Qualifications
• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
• Ability to work in a physical manufacturing environment
• Basic reading, writing, and math skills
• Reliable and punctual
Training and Advancement
• On-the-job training with experienced mechanics
• Opportunity to advance to Mechanic role based on skills and performance
