Job Title:
Mechanical Assembler Job Description The Mechanical Assembler will assemble high-speed turbo motors, generators, and turbomachinery equipment for aerospace and defense applications. This role involves building complex mechanical and electromechanical subassemblies and full systems, performing detailed testing, and ensuring all work meets engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications. The position requires strong hands-on assembly skills, precise use of metrology tools, and the ability to collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to support high-quality production and continuous improvement. Responsibilities Assemble high-speed turbo motors, generators, and turbomachinery equipment in accordance with engineering drawings, schematics, routers, work instructions, and specifications. Perform mechanical assembly and testing of motor and generator components and subassemblies, ensuring accuracy and quality at each stage. Use metrology tools such as height gauges, calipers, and micrometers to verify dimensions and calculate stack-up tolerances of subassemblies. Operate tooling and equipment for advanced machine assembly, including hoists, cranes, and fixtures, in a safe and controlled manner. Perform electrical checks such as resistance, inductance, and hi-pot tests using appropriate meters and test equipment. Conduct functional tests of motors, capture all relevant test data, and accurately record information in build worksheets using Excel. Carry out in-process checks and tests on assemblies to verify conformance to specifications and identify any deviations. Perform basic verification and troubleshooting of own work to resolve assembly or test issues promptly. Interface with engineering and manufacturing teams to discuss design or build issues and ensure alignment with technical requirements. Provide feedback on designs, processes, and work instructions to support continuous improvement in product quality and manufacturability. Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment and tools correctly while working on the assembly line. Maintain an organized work area, manage tools and equipment responsibly, and contribute to a clean and efficient production environment. Essential Skills 3+ years of experience as a technician in a production environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven experience in mechanical assembly, preferably involving motors, generators, or turbomachinery components. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, routers, and detailed work instructions for mechanical and electromechanical assemblies. Proficiency in using metrology tools, including height gauges, calipers, and micrometers, to verify dimensions and tolerances. Capability to calculate stack-up tolerances for subassemblies to ensure proper fit and function. Hands-on experience with assembly tools, including hand tools and power tools, in a production or assembly line environment. Ability to perform electrical checks such as resistance, inductance, and hi-pot tests using digital multimeters, inductance meters, and hi-pot meters. Competence in conducting in-process checks and tests to verify assembly quality and compliance with specifications. Ability to use Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel and Word, to complete build worksheets and documentation. Capability to perform basic verification and troubleshooting of own work to identify and correct assembly or test issues. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed in the course of assembly work. Comfort working with mechanical, magnetic, and power electronic components in a production setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Understanding of basic theory behind motor and generator operation, including power electronics and magnetic bearing component assembly and operation, is a plus. Experience with high-speed motors, turbomachinery, or similar advanced mechanical systems is highly desirable. Familiarity with magnetic components and assemblies used in high-speed or precision equipment is beneficial. Soldering certification is a plus and adds value for work involving electrical connections and components. Experience working in a medium-sized manufacturing environment and within a dedicated mechanical assembly department is advantageous. Strong attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset when following detailed work instructions and conducting tests. Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams and provide constructive feedback on designs and processes. Ability to adapt between sitting and standing tasks while working on an assembly line and managing multiple assembly steps. Why Work Here?
