Job Description

MAKITA Corporation of America, a worldwide leading producer of high-quality power tools, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to become a part of our team! The Product Development Engineer (Mechanical) will be responsible for designing, modeling, and prototyping mechanical components of battery-powered equipment. This role will support Makita Corporation of America R&D. The engineer will be working in a multidisciplinary team and will be collaborating with Makita's and customers' engineering teams. The successful candidate must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Key Responsibilities Create engineering designs of mechanical parts/assemblies using 3D CAD. Reverse-engineer existing assemblies. Ensure designs meet specific and general product requirements, including customer and regulatory requirements. Create rapid prototypes for proof-of-concept. Design and assemble complete, functional prototypes, using 3D-printing, machined components, and basic hand tools. Design experiments, collect data, and generate product test reports. Education, Skills, and/or Experience Needed Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Exceptional understanding of mechanical engineering principles including machine design, mechanical properties of materials, and thermodynamics. 4-5 years of experience in product development and/or designing mechanical assemblies. High proficiency with designing, modeling, and testing using 3D CAD software (preferably SolidWorks and/or Creo). Experience with simulation software (FEA, CFD). Ability to generate and interpret drawings incorporating GD&T. Working knowledge of common manufacturing processes. Ability to multi-task and operate independently.
