Job Description

Medication Technician (Med Tech) - Assisted Living (NC) Position Summary A Medication Technician in an assisted living facility is responsible for safely administering medications to residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse, while also supporting daily care and maintaining compliance with state regulations. Key Responsibilities Medication Administration Administer prescribed medications to residents following the "5 rights" (right resident, medication, dose, time, route) and document all medications given in MARs (Medication Administration Records). Observe residents for side effects or adverse reactions and report concerns. Handle and store medications according to policy and state guidelines. Resident Care Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility. Provide reminders and support for self-administration when applicable. Monitor resident condition and report changes to nursing staff. Compliance & Safety Follow North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services regulations for assisted living facilities. Maintain infection control and safety standards. Ensure proper documentation and confidentiality (HIPAA compliance). Communication Communicate with nurses, caregivers, and management regarding resident care. Interact respectfully with residents and families.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or GED. Completion of a state-approved Medication Aide/Technician training program. Successful competency evaluation (per NC regulations). CPR/First Aid certification (often required).
Preferred:
Prior experience in assisted living, long-term care, or healthcare. CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification (sometimes required by employer). Skills & Competencies Attention to detail and accuracy. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to follow strict procedures. Compassion and patience. Basic computer/documentation skills. Work Environment Assisted living or residential care facility. May include weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts. Physically active role (standing, lifting, assisting residents).
