Job Description

Boone Memorial Health is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) to join our outpatient clinical team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with patients, supporting healthcare providers, and helping create a positive and efficient clinical experience. As a Medical Assistant, you will play an important role in both patient care and clinic operations while working in a collaborative healthcare environment focused on quality, compassion, and professionalism. Job Summary The Medical Assistant ("MA") is responsible for supporting daily clinic operations and assisting medical providers in the examination and treatment of patients in an outpatient healthcare setting. Under the supervision of a licensed provider, the MA performs routine clinical and administrative duties including patient intake, vital signs, specimen collection, injections, EKGs, medical documentation, scheduling, and insurance-related tasks. This position helps ensure efficient clinic workflow and delivery of high-quality patient care while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational standards. Essential Functions Clinical Responsibilities Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments Obtain and document vital signs and medical histories Assist providers during examinations and minor procedures Perform specimen collection and blood draw procedures Perform waived laboratory testing and EKGs Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by licensed providers Screen and follow up on patient test results Recognize medical emergencies and provide First Aid when necessary Maintain accurate and confidential medical records Support patient flow and assist with quality patient care delivery Administrative Responsibilities Schedule appointments, procedures, and follow-up visits Update patient charts and medical documentation Assist with insurance forms and billing processes Maintain inventory and order clinical supplies Coordinate lab testing and prescription refill requests Communicate professionally with patients, providers, and insurance companies Ensure patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times Qualifications Education & Experience High School Diploma required Completion and certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program required EMR experience preferred One year of healthcare or clinical experience preferred Certifications Current Medical Assistant certification required BLS Certification preferred or required within 90 days of hire Skills & Competencies Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong customer service and interpersonal abilities Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities Physical Requirements This position requires prolonged standing, sitting, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds using proper techniques, stair climbing, bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, squatting, and repetitive arm-hand coordination throughout the workday. Work Environment Work is performed in a busy outpatient healthcare setting with direct patient interaction and clinical responsibilities.
