Position:
The Medical Director is a senior physician leadership position responsible for providing clinical oversight, medical direction, and physician supervision for East Mississippi State Hospital. Functioning within the Physician Supervisor classification, this position is accountable for the assessment, diagnosis, evaluation, and determination of patient treatment plans and medical care processes across assigned EMSH programs and services. The Medical Director performs medical procedures and delivers patient care requiring physician-level expertise, while also providing leadership in the development, implementation, and oversight of medical policies, practices, and clinical protocols. This position serves as a key member of the hospital's leadership structure by supporting standards of care, peer review, discharge planning, required medical documentation, and interdisciplinary treatment coordination What you'll need to be
Successful:
To be successful in this position, the employee must demonstrate exceptional clinical judgment, strong physician leadership, and the ability to oversee medical services in a complex hospital environment. The employee should be able to provide high-quality direct medical care, supervise physicians and nurse practitioners effectively, support standards of care through policy oversight and peer review, and work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to promote safe, coordinated treatment. Success in this role also requires professionalism, sound decision-making, accountability, strong communication, and a consistent commitment to compliance, quality improvement, and positive patient outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications:
Requires licensure and typically 1-4 years of post-residency experience. •Hiring agency's preferred qualifications: licensure as a Physician and typically 1-4 years of post-residency experience.
Additional Position Requirements:
The employee must possess and maintain an active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Mississippi and must meet all applicable requirements to perform physician-level assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and medical oversight responsibilities within a hospital setting. The employee must be able to provide medical services across multiple EMSH programs and patient populations, maintain required clinical documentation, collaborate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary staff, and comply with all applicable standards, protocols, and continuing education requirements. The position must also meet all EMSH credentialing standards, including privilege and other medical staff requirements applicable to the role.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in psychiatric, behavioral health, hospital-based, or public sector medical services is preferred. Supervisory experience involving physicians, advanced practice providers, or interdisciplinary clinical teams is also preferred.
