Job Description

Location:
Sherrodsville, OH 44675 Position Summary The Medical Health Technician (MHT) provides direct patient care and clinical support services to individuals receiving treatment for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Working under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, the MHT assists with medical monitoring, specimen collection, and supportive clinical procedures, including phlebotomy and assistance with injections within scope of practice. The MHT ensures a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment in accordance with ASAM and Joint Commission standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides direct patient care and supervision in detoxification, residential, and/or outpatient substance use treatment settings Assists with admissions, discharges, and patient orientation in accordance with facility policy Obtains and documents vital signs, height, weight, and other clinical indicators as directed Performs phlebotomy, including blood draws and specimen collection, following proper protocols and infection control standards Conducts urine drug screens and ensures proper chain of custody procedures Assists licensed nursing staff with medication administration processes, including preparation and support for injections within scope of CNA certification and state regulations Monitors and documents patient condition, including signs and symptoms of withdrawal, intoxication, or medical/psychiatric distress, and promptly reports abnormalities Maintains accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record in compliance with regulatory standards Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, nutrition, and mobility Performs routine safety checks, room searches, and contraband prevention Utilizes de-escalation techniques and supports crisis intervention as needed Ensures proper handling and disposal of sharps and biohazard materials in accordance with OSHA standards Supports implementation of individualized treatment plans and therapeutic programming Participates in shift reports, multidisciplinary team communication, and required trainings
Qualifications Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Licensure/Certification:
Active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in good standing (required) Current CPR/BLS certification (required) Phlebotomy certification or documented competency (required) Demonstrated competency in assisting with injections per state scope of practice (required)
Experience:
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health, detox, or medical setting preferred Hands-on experience with phlebotomy and clinical support for injections required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of substance use disorders, withdrawal management, and co-occurring conditions Understanding of trauma-informed care and patient-centered approaches Proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen handling Knowledge of infection control, OSHA standards, and safe sharps handling Strong observation, documentation, and communication skills Ability to recognize and respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 Physical Demands Ability to stand and walk for extended periods Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds Ability to assist with patient transfers and mobility Fine motor skills required for clinical tasks such as phlebotomy and vital signs Ability to respond rapidly in emergency situations Shift Availability Day Shift (Preferred) Ability to Commute Sherrodsville, OH 44675 (Preferred) ```
