Job Description

Job Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Technician performs routine and complex laboratory analyses on patient specimens to provide accurate and timely clinical data for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The role ensures high standards of quality, efficiency, safety, and compliance in all technical procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform laboratory testing on received specimens in accordance with established protocols and quality assurance standards. Ensure accuracy and reliability of test results by following SOPs and documenting any non-conforming events along with corrective actions. Prepare reagents, maintain laboratory supplies, and manage inventory to minimize waste and control departmental costs. Troubleshoot testing systems and instrumentation issues, escalating concerns to technical support or service providers when required. Apply sound clinical judgment to prioritize workload and ensure timely reporting of critical results. Assist in reviewing, updating, and maintaining laboratory procedures in compliance with regulatory standards (CAP, The Joint Commission, OSHA, and other applicable agencies). Maintain effective communication with colleagues and leadership regarding workflow issues, patient care concerns, and operational challenges. Participate in staff meetings, committees, and improvement initiatives to support departmental growth and process enhancement. Engage in competency assessment and ongoing training programs as required.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Fast-paced clinical laboratory setting with exposure to biohazardous materials and potential chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and occasional handling of materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field required. MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent required within one year of hire (if not already certified/eligible). Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, quality control, and regulatory compliance standards. Pay:
$24.00 - $36.00 per hour
