Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a welcoming environment while managing a variety of administrative and clinical tasks. Your energetic approach and excellent communication skills will help streamline patient flow, support medical staff, and uphold the highest standards of health information management. Responsibilities Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with check-in and check-out procedures using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks. Schedule appointments accurately using medical scheduling software and coordinate with providers to optimize daily clinic operations. Verify insurance coverage, process insurance claims, and perform insurance verification to ensure proper billing and reimbursement. Collect patient payments, handle medical collections, and manage billing processes in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Maintain accurate medical records by reviewing documentation for completeness and correctness; update patient charts in EMR systems like Athenahealth or Dentrix. Assist with intake procedures, including gathering patient histories, updating medical information, and explaining clinic policies. Answer multi-line phone systems professionally, providing excellent customer service while addressing inquiries about appointments, billing, or medical records. Support office management tasks such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and managing electronic documentation review. Collaborate with clinical staff to facilitate care plans, document CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/ICD-10 codes, and ensure accurate medical coding for billing purposes. Uphold confidentiality standards by adhering to HIPAA guidelines during all interactions involving health information management. Qualifications Proven experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar medical office administrative support role; clinic or dental office experience is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, Dentrix or Eaglesoft. Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and familiarity with office management software like Office 365. Knowledge of medical billing procedures, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), insurance verification processes, and Medicare regulations. Ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion in accordance with HIPAA standards. Exceptional phone etiquette combined with strong organizational skills; ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to serve diverse patient populations effectively. Strong attention to detail in documentation review and data entry; prior experience with hospital or healthcare facility operations is advantageous.
