Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Medical Records Coordinator to join our skilled nursing facility team. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate, organized and confidential resident medical records while supporting the nursing, administrative and interdisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, comfortable with computers and able to manage confidential information with care and accuracy. Responsibilities Maintain accurate and organized resident medical records. File, scan, upload and track documentation in the electronic medical record system. Monitor charts for missing, incomplete or late documentation. Assist with admission, discharge, transfer and closed-record processes. Process medical record requests in accordance with HIPAA and facility policy. Track physician-signed documents, consents, advance directives, hospital records and other required forms. Communicate with nursing, therapy, social services, business office, providers and administration regarding documentation needs. Assist with survey readiness and documentation audits. Maintain confidentiality of resident information at all times. Perform other clerical or administrative duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous medical records, health information, administrative or clerical experience preferred. Experience in a skilled nursing facility, long-term care or healthcare setting preferred. Knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality practices preferred. Computer skills required; experience with an electronic medical record system preferred. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and follow through. Professional communication skills. Dependable, flexible, and team-oriented. Preferred Experience Skilled nursing facility or long-term care experience. MatrixCare or other EMR experience. Experience processing medical record requests. Familiarity with healthcare documentation, physician orders, consents, and resident records.
