Job Description

Position Summary The Medical Laboratory Technical Supervisor (MLT) is responsible for overseeing the technical and regulatory operations of the laboratory. This role ensures full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards (including CLIA, CMS, CAP, and state Department of Health requirements). The Technical Supervisor provides oversight of testing personnel, validates laboratory procedures, ensures quality control, and serves as the primary resource for maintaining regulatory readiness at all times.
  • Key Responsibilities 1. Regulatory Compliance & Inspection Readiness
  • Ensure full compliance with: o CLIA regulations (42 CFR Part 493) o CMS requirements o State Department of Health regulations (NJ
DOH, NY DOH
if applicable) o OSHA and HIPAA standards
  • Maintain continuous inspection readiness for audits and surveys
  • Oversee preparation and documentation required for inspections, including: o Personnel records (training, competency, licensure) o Quality control and calibration records o Proficiency testing documentation o Instrument maintenance logs o Test menus and procedure manuals
  • Serve as primary point of contact during regulatory inspections
  • 2. Technical Oversight of Laboratory Testing
  • Supervise and ensure accuracy of all laboratory testing (moderate and/or high complexity)
  • Verify test performance, methodologies, and result validity
  • Oversee validation and verification of new tests and instruments
  • Review and approve standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure compliance with specimen handling, testing, and reporting protocols
  • 3. Personnel Management & Competency
  • Supervise laboratory testing personnel and general supervisors
  • Ensure all staff meet regulatory qualification requirements
  • Develop and manage: o Initial training programs o Ongoing competency assessments o Continuing education plans
  • Maintain accurate documentation of staff roles and responsibilities for regulatory review
  • 4. Quality Management & Assurance
  • Implement and monitor the laboratory Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) programs
  • Investigate and resolve testing errors, discrepancies, and non-conformances
  • Oversee proficiency testing participation and performance
  • Ensure corrective action documentation and follow-up
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to maintain high-quality performance
  • 5. Laboratory Operations & Technical Leadership
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance and troubleshooting support
  • Ensure instruments are properly maintained, calibrated, and validated
  • Oversee reagent management, lot validation, and inventory controls
  • Assist in workflow optimization and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with Laboratory Director on new service line development
  • 6. Documentation & Policy Management
  • Maintain up-to-date: o Test procedure manuals o SOPs and policies o Quality management documentation
  • Ensure all documentation meets regulatory standards and is audit-ready at all times
  • Approve and implement revisions to laboratory procedures
  • Qualifications Education
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field Certification
  • ASCP (or equivalent) certification preferred or required Experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of laboratory experience in moderate/high complexity testing
  • Prior supervisory or technical leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Proven experience in regulatory compliance and successful inspections required
  • Skills & Competencies

  • Exceptional attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Ability to manage inspections and regulatory audits confidently

  • Ability to handle biological specimens safely

  • Pay:
    $48.00
  • $50.
00 per hour
