Immediately Job Description Starting at $64,000 + commensurate with experience for 26-27 School YearPRIMARY PURPOSE
The primary function of the Counselor is to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance for the school, including counseling services. The Counselor will create a proactive developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development.QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certifications (a)Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university. (b)Master's degree preferred. (c)Valid Texas Counseling certificate (or equivalent) required. Knowledge & Skills (a)Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. (b)Ability to write reports and correspondence. (c)Ability to speak effectively before groups of constituents or employees of the organization. (d)Ability and/or willingness to learn to use and understand Microsoft Office for spreadsheets, letters, and other written communications in order to effectively communicate information with employees, administration, and the Board. (e)Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. (f)Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. (g)Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development. (h)Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills. (i)Ability to instruct students and manage behavior. (j)Ability to manage stressful situations. (k)High level of confidentiality and discretion. Preferred Experience (a)Prior classroom teaching experience.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Other:
(a)Provides consultation to administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents regarding the academic, personal social needs of students. (b)Collaborates with campus RTL and SST teams in facilitating interventions or strategies to remove barriers to students' academic success. (c)Oversee the implementation of campus-level character and behavior education and intervention programs. (d)Collaborates with teachers to incorporate guidance-related information into the existing curriculum. (e)Plans and implements school guidance and counseling programs to ensure they meet identified needs. (f)Teaches school development guidance curriculum to students. (g)Provide individual and/or group counseling for students in need. (h)On-site regular attendance. (i)Uses an effective referral process to refer students who need special programs or services. (j)Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. (k)Maintains a variety of student data records and communicates data to students, teachers, and parents as needed. (l)Assists teachers and students as needed in the design, implementation, and support of students' behavior management plans. (m)Assists students and parents in transitioning to and planning for middle school and high school. (n)Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in the guidance and counseling area. (o)Complies with all district and campus policies and procedures. (p)Maintains a positive and effective relationship with administration, staff, students, and parents.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
(a)Supervises campus operations in the absence of the campus principal and vice principal.MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.Position Type:
