Position Summary Information Job Description Summary The full-time Automotive Faculty will teach courses for the Automotive program at Southwestern Michigan College. Required Qualifications Associate degree and appropriate ASE Automotive Certifications. Previous teaching experience or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the duties of the position. Preferred Qualifications ASE Master Mechanic Certification Bachelor's or master's Degree Teaching experience at the college levelOther Information Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach and develop course materials that align with established curriculum. Evaluate curriculum annually to ensure continuous improvement. Mentor and advise students. Provide leadership with adjunct faculty to ensure quality in the classroom. Assure instructional outcomes are established for all courses and that they are aligned with the needs of employers and transfer institutions. Plan and prepare instructional course materials, equipment, and other student experiences necessary to facilitate high quality instruction. Work collaboratively with other automotive and Advanced Technology faculty to recruit students. Upkeep automotive lab spaces to ensure quality learning environment each semester. Work with Chair and Dean to schedule courses and find adjunct instructors when necessary. Assist in planning and leading advisory board meetings. Excellent organization and communication skills as well as the demonstrated use of instructional technology are required. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound. O. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. 2. The physical requirements of this position . Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 3. The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision . The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures. 4. The conditions the employee will be subject to in this position. A. The employee is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. B. The employee is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. C. The employee is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. D. The employee is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the employee to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. E. The employee is subject to vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body. F. The employee is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. G. The employee is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. H. The employee is frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and line pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia.
