GENERAL DESCRIPTION
A middle school principal will develop systems to promote and sustain student and staff success through the implementation of the district's vision and innovative approaches to enhance the student learning experience and learning outcomes. They will utilize collaborative leadership skills to promote the educational development of each student within a culture of excellence that advances a middle school model. The middle school principal must think in a visionary, global manner and collaborate with various stakeholders to develop school leaders and enhance skills to advance school, district and state objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assists in the development, revision and evaluation of the curriculum. Coordinates the scheduling, assigning and placing of students into appropriate programs in the school. Monitors lesson plans to ensure compliance with State and Board of Education standards. Is aware of State and Board of Education standards and consistently sees that they are implemented. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board of Education policies and administrative procedures. Follows district policy and procedures relative to the use of public funds and property. Maintains appropriate records and submits accurate and timely reports to the district central office. Responsible for requisitioning supplies, textbooks, instructional equipment and all materials necessary to the operation of the school through the district central office. Keeps accurate and up-to- date inventories of supplies and equipment of the school. Supervises the maintenance of the physical plant and equipment. Sees to it that the school environment is clean and attractive. Manages school office functions. Plans, organizes and directs implementation of all school activities. Makes sound disciplinary judgments related to student problems, enforces the discipline code consistently, and provides due process to students and communicates with familieswhen necessary. Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, health and safety, and meaningful learning of staff and students. Responsible for the classification, promotion or retention of students within the school in compliance with schooldistrict policy and procedure. Assists in the selectionof staff assigned to the school. Supervises and evaluates professional, paraprofessional, administrativeand non-certified personnel assigned to the school. Develops a trusting climate within the school, which gives support to the staff members and causes them to feel successful and to identify with the school's culture of high expectations for learning. Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes and new programs and promotes in­ service and professional growth of assigned staff personnel. Develops and conducts a planned orientation program to introduce new personnel to the school and continues special assistance for them during their beginning year. Provides in-service activities and other opportunities for staff development. Involves staff in the identification of goals and activities necessary for professional growth. Maintains good public relations with the community and utilizes fully the community resources to enrich the learning program. Responsibility for and through the use of newsletters, bulletins, informational meetings and the school handbook, informs patrons about school events and policies. Encourages teacher and family participation in school related organizations and activities. Communicates with members of the administrative staff on appropriate matters. Is concerned with the general welfare of the school district. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Superintendent may assign from time to time.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid certificate/ license as issued by the Ohio Department of Education; Certificate, Licenses and/or registrations as applicable to position duties and responsibilities and/or as required by the Board of Education.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues and administration. Ability to read, analyze and interpret testing and survey results, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, families, agencies, teachers or members of the school community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to administration, staff, public groups, and/or Board of Education.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, families and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
