POSITION TITLE
Self-Contained Classroom Teacher

EVALUATION
Teachers employed by this district will be evaluated through the Teacher Excellence and Support System
REPORTS TO
Building Principal and/or other Supervisor
JOB GOAL
Responsible for organizing and implementing an instruction program for students and meeting the duties of teaching as outlined in laws and policies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Special Education 7-12. Valid Arkansas Certification in the appropriate coverage.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate work beyond the bachelor's degree. Classroom teaching experience. Experience in a like position. Knowledge and experience in behavior science/behavior modification.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Communicate effectively in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills. Effective data-based problem-solving and team collaboration skills. Ability to use evidence-based classroom management strategies and techniques. Ability to use evidence-based individual behavior management strategies and techniques. Ability to use effective strategies for differentiating instruction. Knowledge of social skills and/or affective strategies and curriculum. Knowledge of curriculum, based on common core standards. Knowledge of federal and state laws related to exceptional student education. Ability to effectively use and integrate technology in the classroom setting. Knowledge in mental health field.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning Design the individualized Education Program (IEP) so that it is consistent with the total educational philosophy of the district. Continue professional growth through education (general education and exceptional student) meetings and trainings, visiting related facilities, reading professional literature, and exchanging ideas among the district staff. Collaborate with teachers in planning and implementing the program. Programming Prepare educational plans annually for each student based on individually assessed needs, in accordance with district procedures. Use appropriate assessment instruments pertinent to academic and behavioral areas. Prepare academic lesson plans, affective lesson plans, and behavior support plans for each student. Collaborate with other school personnel in developing appropriate schedules for exceptional students. Provide specialized instructional techniques and media through individual and/or group sessions designed to meet the educational, social and emotional needs of the students. Identify and collaborate with district, community, and agency services to meet the needs of exceptional students. Participate on the school-based intervention team, in-school staffing team, evaluation team and screening processes, as appropriate. Monitor and manage instructional assistants and/or paraprofessionals, as assigned.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Collaborate with school personnel in coordinating IEP services within that school. Develop and/or conduct in-service programs to inform classroom teachers of the goals and objectives of the IEP and ways of achieving them in the school setting. Collaborate with the classroom teachers concerning any student educational needs, as requested. Provide general education and IEP teachers with instructional ideas and/or behavioral strategies that are appropriate for exceptional students within all school settings.
REPORTING
Ensure that each student in the program has necessary evaluation records in his/her permanent folder. Furnish the principal with current exceptional student schedules. Complete progress reports and report cards on each student in the program. Supply progress reports and report cards to school personnel and to parents of exceptional students as necessary and requested. Refer those students who require further evaluation or follow-up services to the appropriate school personnel or community agencies. OTHER Perform other duties as assigned.
