About Our School:
Sharon Public Schools is seeking outstanding applicants for the Special Education Coordinator position at Sharon Middle School, who will support a community that creates a nurturing and caring atmosphere, promotes high expectations for teaching and learning and provides a challenging and engaging educational program to build a solid foundation for lifelong learning. Responsibilities:
Hire, supervise and evaluate special education staff, including special education teachers, instructional assistants, school psychologists, school adjustment counselors, and related service providers. Assign liaison caseloads to special education staff and develop instructional assistants'' schedules. Organize and maintain all student timelines, including completing necessary forms and notices. Collaborate with the Director of Student Services and district Student Services Administrators on state and federal compliance and monitoring. Oversee all evaluations and assessments. Attend Instructional Leadership Team meetings. Supervise and support all High School special education programs. Collaborate with general education teachers and special education teachers to promote inclusive practices and provide support for students with disabilities in the general education setting. Chair eligibility team meetings and other meetings as necessary. Attend and Organize 6 and 8th transition meetings. Work with outside agencies as needed. Oversee post-secondary planning and the 688 referral process. Hold monthly department meetings and provide ongoing professional development. Participate in district-wide Special Education leadership meetings. Collaborate with the Dean of Academic Affairs in the development of the master schedule and with school counselors to develop individual student schedules as needed. Assist the Principal and curriculum leaders in the development and implementation of Multi-tiered Systems and Supports (MTSS). Collaborate with Assistant Director for Out of District (OOD) Placements on the needs of students in grades 6-8 as applicable. Assist in the support the integration of OOD students into school based activities (including but not limited to clubs, activities, sports, prom and graduation). Attend OOD team meetings as needed and help facilitate transitions back to SMS as appropriate. Responsible for ensuring that OOD students who require testing are evaluated within the timelines. Supervise and evaluate staff as assigned by the Principal. Assist with behavior analysis, student discipline and behavior management and support. Foster a positive and supportive school climate. Collaborate with ELL Coordinator to ensure services are met. Build positive and collaborative relationships with families and help them support their students' success in school. Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Services and/or Building Principal.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Special Education or a related field. Massachusetts Licensure as a Special Education Administrator (or eligible for licensure). Thorough understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated leadership experience in a middle school setting. Minimum 3-5 years relative work experience. Post-secondary/transition planning, 688 process, program development and middle school master scheduling.
