MIG Welder Job Description Join a busy fabrication shop in Decatur, AL as a full-time MIG Welder on a stable weekday day shift. You will perform production and custom welding work on a variety of metal components, using your welding and grinding skills to meet quality and safety standards in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on various metal components using appropriate settings and techniques. Use grinding tools and equipment to prep, finish, and smooth welds to required specifications. Read and interpret basic fabrication instructions, drawings, and blueprints to complete assigned work. Measure and verify materials using tape measures and other basic measuring tools to ensure accuracy. Work with mild steel, stainless steel, and other metals as required by the job. Follow established welding procedures, including GMAW processes, to maintain consistent weld quality. Set up, operate, and maintain welding and grinding equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Inspect completed welds and finished parts to ensure they meet quality standards and production requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with shop safety guidelines. Meet daily production timelines while maintaining high quality and attention to detail. Participate in and successfully complete a weld test and grinding test as part of the hiring and onboarding process. Essential Skills Proven MIG welding experience in a fabrication or similar environment. Strong MIG welding skills, including setup, operation, and basic troubleshooting. Proficiency in grinding and metal finishing to prepare and complete welds. Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and fabrication instructions. Competence using tape measures and basic hand tools for accurate measurement and layout. Experience working with mild steel and stainless steel materials. Familiarity with GMAW welding processes. Ability to pass a hands-on weld test and grinding test. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Solid safety awareness and adherence to shop safety practices. Ability to provide and use personal welding hood and gloves. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior fabrication shop experience is preferred. Experience with TIG welding is a plus. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment. Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to follow established procedures. Why Work Here? The environment is hands-on and production-focused, with an emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and organization in the work area. You are expected to bring and use your own welding hood and gloves while following all shop safety and protective equipment guidelines. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
