Job Description

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?
Position Summary The Mine Shift Lead is responsible and accountable for providing direction and assistance to production operations and crew, provide a safe and healthy work environment, to promote and improve internal and external regulatory compliances, and continuous improvement. The required leadership is characterized by professional, passionate and persevering approach to the implementation and use of CTG policies, WCM Standards, and state and federal regulations. Leadership in both operational efficiency and employee quality of work is required.
Essential Duties :
Daily supervises mine production shift under direction of Mine Lead. Provides coaching/mentoring to continuously develop team, communicates performance expectations, and provides regular feedback of performance. Oversee daily activities and ensure employees adhere to company policies while working within company guidelines. Does not have authority to issue discipline, hire or terminate employment. Responsible for the leading daily safety discussion. Promoting safety and using real world circumstances and daily topics and concerns of the crew to make aware of hazardous situations. Responsible for job assignments in accordance with shift schedule. Responsible for daily communications involving work areas and types of work. With open discussion involving the communication board. Review previous shift work place exam, communicate adverse conditions to miners Responsible for work place exam including ground conditions, geo-hazards, conditions of berms, water issues, and control measures to reduce the risks including guards and other safety features. Responsible for reporting property damages Provide coaching and training to mine teams in aspect of EH&S Must be well crossed trained to operate various pieces of mine equipment. Conduct EWO's for unplanned downtime of equipment. Must be able to perform physical and labor intensive jobs such as lifting 50 pounds, working with sump pump, maintaining safety fence around property. Promote the use of performance management and goal-setting to monitor and drive performance. Provide leadership and coaching using WCM tools for production efficiency, housekeeping, mine standards, and critical tasks. Meet with Mine Lead and EHS Lead daily to discuss operations and EHS objectives for team members and contractors. Lead operational improvements, safety issues and other areas of impact. Provide help and assistance to maintenance when equipment is down. Responsible for monitoring employees and maintaining safe observances including but not limited to the use of PPE. Help with SHEARO reports, safety inspections, risk assessments, critical task audits, NOS & TAS sampling. Complete daily production reports, daily downtime report, and provide communication to on-coming shift. Communicates goals and objectives, applies company policy, trains, and coaches as well as ensuring positive employee relations and providing feedback on the performance of employees. Must be willing to follow and understand Code of Ethics and Business Conduct Guidelines for North America.

Other Duties & Responsibilities :
Operates mine heavy equipment; fuel truck, haul truck, FEL, dozers, loaders, drills, miners, and crushing plants. Maintains housekeeping for lead truck and fuel truck. Monitors vacation calendar and manages time off requests are completed within guidelines in the Vacation/Time Off policy. Conduct inspections and risk assessments Assists leadership with EHS events Maintains daily work record of employee's time and job. Reports daily work to Mine Lead and Mine OA. Monitor contractor safety Must be first-aid trained and able to provide support and direction should an upset condition arise. Works under the direction of Mine Lead Performs other related duties and responsibilities as needed and/or requested by management.
Minimum Knowledge & Skills Required:
3-5 years of applied professional experience in a manufacturing/mining environment. Current MSHA certification Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to provide leadership and innovation at all levels of the organization. Flexible, open-minded team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and problem solving capabilities to work effectively in corporate, manufacturing and team environments. Must be flexible to adapt to changing and varying work requirements. Must have respect for others and able to interact with others effectively. Display Integrity and respect for the law. Proficient computer skills. Core competencies include effective verbal and written communication skills, listening skills, ability to organize and retrieve information, and to handle people tactfully and effectively in situations involving various levels.
Preferred or Desired Qualifications :
5+ year's previous experience in gypsum mining. Able to perform all audits relative to EHS. Comprehensive knowledge of the practices, procedures, SG mine standards and MSHA regulations. Ability to evaluate opportunities for improvements in work flow, ergonomics, and housekeeping.

Working Conditions :
Works in a mining environment with limited HVAC, concrete floors, and exposure to industrial noise, dust, chemicals and temperature changes. Normal plant operation is 24 hours, 7 days a week and work hours may vary depending on business needs. May require long hours, and weekend and holiday work. May require travel by air and rental cars.
Physical Demands :
Job includes tasks that require walking, bending, twisting, gripping, stair and ladder climbing, navigating rough terrain and occasional lifting of up to 50lbs. Job may require long periods of sitting, walking, standing, working on a computer or engaging in verbal conversation. Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment necessary to comply with government and company safety standards whenever engineered methods of reducing hazards or physical requirements cannot be reasonably accommodated.
