Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mold Setter to join our manufacturing team. The Mold Setter is responsible for preparing, installing, and maintaining molds used in plastics manufacturing processes such as injection molding, blow molding, and extrusion. This role ensures that molds are set up accurately and efficiently to produce high-quality products while adhering to safety standards and production schedules. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, proficiency with precision measuring instruments, and experience with various fabrication tools. Duties Install, align, and secure molds into injection molding machines, blow molding equipment, or extrusion lines using hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers. Perform mold changes efficiently while minimizing downtime, following established procedures aligned with lean manufacturing principles. Conduct routine inspections of molds for wear, damage, or defects using quality inspection techniques; document findings and coordinate repairs as needed. Operate CNC machines, CNC lathes, press brake machines, and other fabrication equipment to modify or repair molds in accordance with specifications. Use programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to troubleshoot and adjust machinery settings for optimal operation. Handle materials safely within the warehouse environment, including materials handling of raw materials and finished products. Support the setup and operation of plastics injection molding, blow molding, and extrusion processes by ensuring proper mold configuration. Assist in the calibration of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and gauges to maintain quality standards. Collaborate with the quality assurance team during inspections to verify product conformity to specifications. Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to safety protocols; participate in continuous improvement initiatives like lean manufacturing practices. Experience Proven experience as a Mold Setter or in a similar role within a plastics manufacturing environment. Strong mechanical knowledge related to mold fabrication, assembly, and repair processes. Familiarity with plastics injection molding, blow molding, extrusion processes, and associated machinery. Proficiency with CNC machinery programming and operation; experience with CNC lathe is advantageous. Hands-on experience using hand tools, precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers), and fabrication equipment such as press brake machines. Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for troubleshooting automated systems. Warehouse experience including materials handling and inventory management is preferred. Basic math skills necessary for measurements, calculations, and process adjustments. Understanding of lean manufacturing principles aimed at reducing waste and improving efficiency. Prior experience in quality inspection procedures within a manufacturing setting is desirable. This position offers an engaging environment where technical expertise meets operational excellence.
