Job Description
General Statement of Duties Assigned to work areas in Elmore County which he/she performs mosquito control activities and assists with mosquito control product applications as part of an integrated mosquito management program; using pesticide recording systems provided by Elmore County Pest Abatement Department, under the supervision of the Pest Control Superintendent. Classification Summary A person in this position is responsible for taking all necessary and proper steps for the control of mosquitoes for public health and welfare importance in Elmore County. This job will be approximately 20 hours per week for approximately 4 months, depending on environmental conditions. Examples of Work (Illustrative Only) Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assists in preparation, deployment, and use of mosquito control products and equipment; independently analyzes and interprets data to determine follow-up measures. Be punctual and provide services in a timely manner within a specified timeframe. Keep accurate records of work performed; using forms and recording systems provided by the Department. Maintain and update field maps and application records as needed. Follow all equipment safety procedures with care. Represent the County by following all driving rules and regulations and interacting with the public in a positive, professional manner. Communicate respectfully, honestly, and knowledgeably to residents if stopped and questioned. Can adapt to the irregular hours inherently involved in public mosquito control. Work hours will be flexible hours using department vehicles. Monitors and reviews records for accuracy, completeness, and efficacy. Will not share information related to the surveys and applications without consulting with Pest Control Superintendent. Be safety-minded with the ability to keep detailed records and evaluate situations while accurately adopting an effective course of action. Perform other job duties as assigned by the Pest Control Superintendent. Monitors and manages enforcement of mosquito abatement program statutes. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of (or ability to learn): Emergency response techniques. Insect/pest taxonomy or identification. Streets and unmarked roads in urban and rural Elmore County.
Ability to:
Identify by physical inspection, most mosquito sites within the County. Execute a mosquito abatement program. Interpret and apply county, state and federal policies and procedures. Complete assigned projects within established deadline. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Follow written and oral instructions. Establish good rapport with department employees, the general public and personnel from other government agencies. Operate standard office equipment, a personal computer using program applications appropriate to assigned duties. Maintain records, logs and documentation. Safely operate, adjust and monitor equipment. React to change promptly and effectively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.License/Certification Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Idaho driver's license and a good driving record. Acceptable Experience and Training High school diploma or equivalent general educational development (GED) certification. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. Communicate effectively in English in both written and verbal forms. Essential Physical Abilities Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to communicate effectively. Sufficient vision with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform the essential job functions Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to drive to various locations within the County; conduct field activities while surveying properties and areas which includes walking on unstable or uneven sloping terrain while carrying trapping equipment up to 65 pounds.
