Job Description

ABOUT THE JOB
The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing MRI examinations in accordance with American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation guidelines and protocols. The Technologist may also perform additional imaging procedures within their certified scope of practice and demonstrated competency. This role operates under the direct supervision of the MRI Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Registered as an MR Technologist with: ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists), or ARMRIT (American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists), or CAMRT (Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists)
Experience:
Preferred:
1-2 years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist with cross-training in
MRI Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required IV Certification - Required

Reports To:
Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Supervisor DI Director Key Relationships Radiologists Medical staff Patients and families Hospital employees External healthcare facilities Private physician offices Public and volunteers
SCOPE OF ROLE
Equipment & Technology The Technologist operates MRI and related imaging equipment and may utilize additional certified equipment within their scope of practice.
Physical Requirements Occasional:
Lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, squatting, stooping, climbing, kneeling, crouching, overhead reaching, pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs
Frequent:
Sitting, forward reaching, pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs, lifting equipment, carrying up to 30 lbs
Constant:
Walking, handling, fine motor skills Working Conditions Exposure to electrical, mechanical, and radiant energy hazards Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens Exposure to high-stress or emergency situations Occasional irregular work hours Exposure to cleaning agents Protective Equipment Lead aprons (full bib) Gloves, gowns Masks, goggles, face shields (as required)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical & Technical Duties Perform MRI procedures in accordance with ACR standards and regulatory guidelines Adjust imaging protocols based on patient needs and clinical indications Ensure patient safety, including pre-screening for contraindications and implant safety Modify technical parameters to optimize image quality Administer IV contrast media and establish IV access Select appropriate coils and positioning techniques Patient Care & Communication Clearly explain procedures and address patient concerns (e.g., anxiety, claustrophobia) Conduct patient pre-screening and preparation Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation Ensure confidentiality of patient and staff information Critical Thinking & Workflow Management Prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively Integrate clinical data from various sources Adapt workflows to meet patient and operational needs Professional Practice & Collaboration Deliver patient-centered care tailored to diverse populations Advocate for patient needs and escalate concerns appropriately Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams Resource & Environment Management Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment Use equipment and supplies efficiently
