Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of City buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment. Responsibilities include basic construction, carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical work, groundskeeping, and custodial duties to ensure safe, clean, and functioning public spaces. Work may require independent judgment, adherence to safety procedures, and interaction with the public and other City staff.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on public buildings, structures, and facilities, including patching and painting walls, repairing doors and windows, and fixing furniture or fixtures.
- Conducts simple plumbing work such as clearing drains, repairing leaks, replacing faucets, and maintaining restroom fixtures.
- Assists with basic electrical tasks like replacing light fixtures and bulbs, resetting breakers, and repairing outlets as assigned.
- Operates and maintains a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance.
- Performs groundskeeping duties including mowing lawns, trimming shrubs, removing weeds, raking leaves, and picking up litter from public areas.
- Assists with maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, including adjusting sprinklers and replacing broken parts.
- Completes janitorial work such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning restrooms, and emptying trash receptacles.
- Moves and arranges furniture and equipment for meetings, special events, and City activities.
- Performs minor concrete and asphalt repair, including filling cracks and patching holes.
- Responds to maintenance requests, work orders, and emergency calls; troubleshoots problems and performs appropriate repairs.
- Maintains records of work performed, materials used, and equipment serviced.
- Observes safe work methods and utilizes safety equipment; reports hazardous conditions and needed repairs to supervisor.
- Assists other maintenance personnel and City departments as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have a valid drivers license
- Must be able to operate a backhoe
- Knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance and repair.
- Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting practices.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Skill in following oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor, including lifting, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in facility, building, or grounds maintenance is desirable.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
Special Requirements:
- Possession of a valid Texas drivers license is required.
- Must be able to pass a background check and meet physical requirements of the position.
