The Role The Music Director at Royal Oak First is not simply responsible for producing strong music. This person helps cultivate a culture where music welcomes people, deepens worship, forms faith, and strengthens community. This is a leadership role within the life of the church. The Music Director partners closely with the pastoral team and staff to shape worship, support spiritual formation, and help the congregation live its mission. We are looking for someone who is both musically strong and relationally grounded. Someone who can lead with skill and with care. Someone who understands that how we make music matters as much as what we produce.
What You Will Do:
Worship Leadership Ensemble and Volunteer Leadershi p Program Growth and Formation Administration and Communicatio n Stewardship of Resources What You Bring Required Strong musical leadership skills, especially in choral direction Experience working with both traditional and contemporary worship styles Ability to lead, organize, and sustain volunteer-based programs Collaborative spirit and ability to work as part of a staff team Relational intelligence and genuine care for people Preferred (not required) Organ and/or accompanist experience Handbell directing experience Experience with contemporary band leadership Familiarity with United Methodist worship or similar traditions Experience in worship planning and/or theological education Experience conducting larger works or instrumental ensembles If you meet many but not all of these qualifications, we encourage you to apply.
