Primary Purpose:
The Network Engineer works with key district stakeholders to plan, design, and implement network solutions that support the educational and administrative missions of the school district. This position is responsible for the lifecycle management—including planning, installation, configuration, maintenance, and tier-3 support—of the district's wired network, enterprise wireless, IP-based physical security systems, Unified Communications (VoIP) phone systems, and the secure framework governing student data systems, identity access management, and automated account provisioning.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Computer Science, Information Technology) or equivalent enterprise network experience is preferred.
Certifications:
Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional (CCNA / CCNP) Extreme Networks certifications (ECS / ECWP) CompTIA Network+ or Security+
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proven experience managing Cisco enterprise routing/switching and Extreme Networks infrastructure. Demonstrated experience handling account provisioning, Identity Management (IAM), SSO deployments, and directory services integration. Experience provisioning network infrastructure to support IP camera networks, VoIP phone environments, and enterprise-level database access (such as Student Information Systems).
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in network administration and support (preferred). 5 years of hands-on experience configuring, implementing, and maintaining
LAN/WAN/WLAN
architectures in an enterprise or K-12 environment (preferred).
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Identity Management & Account Provisioning
User Lifecycle Management:
Manage and automate the provisioning, modification, and de-provisioning of staff and student accounts across the district's network, email platforms (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365), and active directory environments (AD / Azure AD).
Automated Data Rostering:
Oversee and troubleshoot automated account provisioning utilities and rostering tools (e.g., Clever, ClassLink, OneRoster) synced with the Student Information System to ensure student digital access is available on day one.
Identity & Access Control:
Maintain Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) protocols, and Role-Based Access Controls (RBAC) to enforce the principle of least privilege across all district platforms. Network Infrastructure & Hardware Architecture
Core Routing & Switching:
Install, configure, and maintain enterprise Cisco routers, core switches, and edge infrastructure. Manage Layer 2/Layer 3 configurations with an emphasis on dynamic routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), VLANs, 802.1q trunking, RSTP, and BPDU guard.
Fabric & Edge Networking:
Deploy and manage Extreme Networks switching environments and automated campus fabric technologies to ensure high availability and simplified network segmentation. Enterprise Wireless (WLAN): Manage district-wide wireless networks (Cisco Catalyst or ExtremeCloud IQ), including wireless LAN controllers, access points, RF channel planning, and secure 802.1X authentication for student and staff devices. IP Phone Systems & Unified Communications (VoIP)
Telephony Infrastructure:
Manage, configure, and troubleshoot the district's enterprise VoIP phone system (e.g., Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Mitel, or cloud-hosted platforms).
Emergency Systems Integration:
Ensure seamless integration of the phone system with school intercoms, public address (PA) systems, and E911 emergency location broadcasting utilities to maintain campus safety compliance. Student Data Management & Network Security
SIS Integration & Access:
Optimize network pathways, database connectivity, and load balancing for the district's Student Information System (SIS) (e.g., Skyward, PowerSchool, Infinite Campus) to ensure fast, reliable access for teachers, registrars, and parents.
Data Privacy & Compliance:
Implement strict Access Control Lists (ACLs), firewalls, and network segmentation to protect sensitive student data, state testing platforms, and grading databases in compliance with CIPA and FERPA. IP Camera Systems & Physical Security Integration
Surveillance Infrastructure:
Oversee the network architecture supporting the district's IP camera systems, Network Video Recorders (NVRs), and Video Management Software (VMS).
Optimization:
Configure dedicated VLANs, Quality of Service (QoS) metrics, and multicast routing to ensure high-definition video feeds stream seamlessly without impacting classroom instructional bandwidth. Diagnostics, Projects & ITIL Operations Perform advanced diagnostics and provide tier-3 troubleshooting support for all components using tools like Fluke meters, packet analyzers, and syslog servers. Develop project plans, perform walkthroughs, markup floor plans, and design rack layouts for MDF/IDF closets ahead of campus upgrades or structured cabling projects (CAT6/6A, fiber optics). Support integrated ITIL processes including Incident, Change, and Problem management to ensure all infrastructure changes are coordinated and scheduled outside of instructional hours to minimize classroom disruption.
