OVERVIEW
The successful candidate will be responsible for the advanced configuration and operating system upgrades of carrier-class Cisco and Nokia equipment that tie together a complex, multivendor nationwide data network. The Engineer will also work on up-and-coming virtualization technologies in the Pacific and North Central Markets. They will assist with and perform implementation responsibilities for one or more COINs and work closely with the Implementation and Engineering teams to carry out strategic technology goals and transition from VXLAN to the eNSE platform. This new network leverages virtualization and software-defined networking to transform how products and services are delivered while maintaining industry leadership. Telecommunication is seeking a motivated and driven engineering professional who will assume responsibilities for engineering IP networking build projects and work closely with the Capacity Planning, Design, and Operations teams.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Work 3rd shift, 8-hours, 5-day work weeks (Monday-Friday mornings) Plan, prioritize, and schedule maintenance window changes with multiple groups, then implement changes adhering to corporate standards Configure routers, switches, and related network equipment including: Cisco CRS, Company, ASR 9K, ISR 3945 Nexus 3K, 7K, 9K Juniper
MX-480, MX-960
Operating Systems:
IOS, XR-IOS, NX-OS, JunOS Network Implementation & Configuration Implement configuration changes for directional Intelligent Edge Networks including: SAP eNSE fabric Access eNSE fabric EPC element migration to eNSE ISP peering routers VCP Edge connectivity eNSE connectivity to MSE and UT Automation & Tools Use automation tools such as: Python, NSO, DCNM, VTS, Pronghorn, Nuage Network Operations Transport circuit turn up/troubleshooting Turn up new circuits and disconnect older ones across varying bandwidths Work remotely with local teams across the United States to deploy and troubleshoot network devices Work independently with minimal supervision and meet aggressive timelines Adapt quickly to new deployment processes in remote environments Engineering & Maintenance Engineer network configurations for onboarding private cloud tenants Perform BAU maintenance: ACL updates Software upgrades on eNSE fabric (border leafs, access leafs, spines) Utilize monitoring tools during maintenance windows to ensure proper functionality Use configuration comparison tools: Ultracompare, Diff Checker, Notepad Collaboration & Processes Review MOPs and automated outputs before changes Attend daytime MOP reviews and project meetings Assist team members in overwatch roles during migrations and cutovers Coordinate intra/interdepartmental communication for change planning Enter changes into the "Kirke" change management database Work with Network Assurance teams to validate no customer impact Perform all pre/post checks on affected devices Must Have Skills (Most Important) Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience Willingness to work flexible schedules (nights and occasional weekends) Positive attitude and strong work ethic Technical Skills Extensive knowledge of Layer 1 troubleshooting (copper & fiber: Cat5/6, SC, LC, FC, MPO) Expert CLI knowledge for: Nokia 7750/7706/7250 Cisco 55A1, 5504, 5508, 9508, CRS-16, Nexus (3K/5K/7K/9K) Strong knowledge of MPLS and IP Layers 1-3 Hands-on experience with network virtualization and device updates Strong understanding of: IPv4, IPv6 L2VPN, L3VPN OSPFv3, MP-BGP QoS/Traffic Engineering MPLS (LDP & TDP) VRFs Networking & Fabric Knowledge Knowledge of spine-leaf architecture Working knowledge of VXLAN and BGP Other Skills Ability to follow detailed engineering design documents Strong communication skills (email and phone) Experience with remote connectivity (console, Ethernet, fiber) Ability to manage workload and coordinate with teams Capability to lead calls and validate implementation changes Comfortable troubleshooting with remote support teams Administrative skills for tracking tickets, logs, and emails Strong attention to detail
DESIRED SKILLS
CCNA or CCNP certification Experience with Nokia SR-OS devices Experience with network virtualization in corporate environments Knowledge of cloud computing: VMware, OpenStack, AWS, Azure Experience with: Linux OS, Ansible, Chef/Puppet, Docker Five or more years working with large, complex data networks Troubleshooting experience in: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, IPv4, IPv6, VPNs, SIP Experience managing multiple technical projects Understanding of 3G and 4G call flow
