Job Description

Description:
The Olfactory Circuits Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Lehigh University in eastern Pennsylvania has full-time laboratory technician positions open for motivated individuals interested in contributing to cutting-edge neuroscience research. Work in the lab seeks to advance understanding of neural circuits within the mouse olfactory bulb and broader olfactory system and mammalian brain. The open positions offer an excellent opportunity for new graduates as well as more experienced applicants to obtain expert hands-on training and develop a strong foundation for future graduate study or a permanent research role. Positions are grant-funded and subject to successful continuation of funding.
Trainees can gain expertise in:
Neurophysiology and neurobiology, with specific focus on the mammalian olfactory system Advanced tools for neuroscience research, including genetically-modified mice, stereotaxic surgery and adeno-associated virus delivery, and intersectional molecular strategies for neuron targeting Microscopy, including brightfield, fluorescence, widefield and confocal microscopy, morphometric analyses, and histological and immunostaining techniques Olfactory-guided rodent behavioral experiments Acute brain slice electrophysiology, including voltage- and current-clamp recordings, synaptic physiology, pharmacology, optogenetics, and chemogenetics Relevant software, including MATLAB, IgorPro, FIJI, Micro-Manager, Neurolucida, Illustrator Experimental design, writing, and presentation skills Responsibilities of this position include: Independently planning and executing experiments Flexible scheduling to accommodate experimental timeframes Reading relevant background articles Analyzing experimental data, preparing figures, and contributing to manuscript writing Participating in lab meetings and collaborating with research team members Minimum qualifications: B.S. or equivalent degree in neuroscience or related field Background in cellular and systems neuroscience and/or neurophysiology Basic wet lab skills, such as solution calculations and preparation, and micropipetting Preferred qualifications: Coding experience (MATLAB preferred) Openings have an approximate salary range of $44,000-$53,000, subject to prior experience, and classify as non-exempt 40 hours-per-week positions and qualify for Lehigh's competitive benefits package, including healthcare, retirement, and educational benefits and flexible vacation.
