Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The NPDI Buyer is responsible for supporting the purchasing activities associated with New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI) projects within Vertiv. This role ensures that all purchased materials are sourced, ordered, and available to support prototype builds and production launches on time and within budget. The NPDI Buyer works closely with the NPDI Procurement Lead, Commodity Managers, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to execute sourcing strategies, place purchase orders, manage intercompany procurement, and ensure supply chain readiness for new product releases.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Purchase Order Execution:
Place purchase orders for NPDI projects based on NPDI project requirements including prototype testing, sampling and
PPAP Intercompany Procurement:
Manage intercompany purchase orders across Vertiv plants and between regions coordinating with order management teams to ensure timely processing.
Prototype Support:
Procure materials required for prototype builds during Phase 4 (Design Phase) and for Pilot Build, ensuring parts are available to meet engineering timelines.
Supplier Coordination:
Communicate with Procurement on lead times, delivery commitments, pricing confirmations, and on order acknowledgments with
Suppliers ERP Management:
Create and maintain purchase orders in Oracle ERP systems (Oracle Alice), ensuring accurate pricing, sourcing rules, and supplier setup accordingly in coordination with the cross-functional team.
Supplier Setup:
Coordinate with Commodity Managers to ensure new suppliers are properly set up in ERP with correct costs, lead times, and sourcing rules prior to production launch.
Gate Deliverable Support:
Ensure materials are ready for each phase gate and prototype build according to the project schedule.
Cross-Regional Coordination:
Serve as the procurement point of contact for intercompany orders, working with regional contacts (EMEA, APAC/China) to ensure smooth order execution and customs clearance.
NPDI PO Tracker:
maintain, update and report with the cross-functional team
Process Improvement:
Identify and recommend improvements to the NPDI purchasing process, supplier communication workflows, and procurement execution efficiency. Perform other duties as assigned by the direct manager, ensuring support of broader operational goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field. 3-5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or buying roles within a manufacturing environment. Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems and proficiency in data analytics (Oracle, SAP Excel, etc.). Strong attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and ability to manage competing priorities. Effective communication to work across engineering, procurement, and operations.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in purchase order creation, requisition processing, and supplier management within ERP systems. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and data analysis. Experience with Smartsheet or similar project management tools.
Knowledge:
Understanding of procurement processes including sourcing, purchasing, and supplier management. Familiarity with BOM structures and manufacturing processes.
Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to coordinate across multiple regions and time zones.
Language:
English proficiency required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience supporting New Product Development/Introduction (NPDI/NPI) processes in a manufacturing environment.
APICS/ASCM
CPIM or CSCP certification. Familiarity with Vertiv's product portfolio (Power Management, Thermal Management, IT Infrastructure). Experience with E2Open or similar supply chain collaboration tools.
TIME TRAVEL REQUIRED
