Job Description
Position Overview Do you love music, nature and children? The Ashokan Center, a 501c (3) not for profit, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Nurse to primarily support the health and safety of students in grades 4-6 participating in our Residential Outdoor Education Program. This role includes periodic overnight responsibilities, for which modern, private lodging with a bathroom is provided in our new Health Center. The position generally follows a school-year calendar (late August through late June), with additional coverage expected during a four-week summer children's day camp (Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) as well as various summer adult music and dance camps. During adult programs, the nurse is expected to be on call , with optional participation in camp activities encouraged. This is a unique opportunity to work at a leading community-based organization that celebrates nature, music, history and art. Located in Olivebridge, NY on 385 acres of fields, forests, trails, and streams, the Ashokan Center is a magical place that has provided high quality, innovative environmental education programs for K-12 school students and teachers for over 50 years. We also host retreats, weddings, public events, concerts, lectures, and the world renowned Ashokan Music & Dance Camps.

- Additional summer coverage required during: ○ A four-week children's day camp (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) ○ Various summer adult music and dance camps held from mid-July to mid-August, during which the nurse will be on call . Participation in camp activities is both welcome and encouraged. Key Responsibilities
- Obtain, review, and organize medical forms for all participating students
- Communicate with school nurses and teachers to identify students' medical needs, including allergies, prescriptions, chronic conditions, and behavioral considerations
- Complete individualized student medical reference sheets for program staff
- Attend arrival meetings to review key medical concerns with the education team
- Provide nursing care and overnight coverage when scheduled
- Maintain and stock the Health Center, ensuring it is clean, organized, and fully operable
- Conduct daily health surveillance and manage "sick call" visits for students
- Administer medications as prescribed by a physician
- Provide timely and appropriate treatment for injuries and illnesses
- Assess student conditions and determine appropriate care pathways, including continued participation, further evaluation, or early dismissal
- Respond to emergencies in accordance with Ashokan's Emergency Action Plan
- Accurately maintain medical logs and medication administration records
- Collaborate with Education Administrators regarding any significant medical situations or concerns
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with students, staff, parents, and guardians
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and customer service at all times Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license preferred; relevant nursing experience required
- Current certification in BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid
- Experience in pediatric care strongly preferred
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work flexibly and be available for "on-call" needs, including overnight stays
- Must enjoy working with children in an educational and nature-based setting
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
