Position Summary The Senior Nurse Practitioner diagnoses and treats acute, episodic, or chronic illness, may focus on health promotion and disease prevention with the highest degree of independence

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions  Acts as an advanced resource for specialty area or lead worker in clinic setting.  Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.  Operates with the highest degree of independence in provision of patient care services with minimal physician supervision and generally in a highly specialized area.  Assists in teaching students, residents and interns in complex techniques and procedures that are unique to specialized clinical setting.  Uses advanced skills and in-depth clinical knowledge in a highly independent manner to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care to clients across the continuum.  Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.  Writes or dictates reports and progress notes appropriately in the medical record,  Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment; works collaboratively to formulate treatment plans.  Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission, and discharge care.  Performs detailed history and physical examinations and documents inpatient H & P, discharge summaries and clinical (Must be reviewed and countersigned by supervising medical staff member within 24 hours and may not be substituted for physician H & P).  Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of patients.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.  Demonstrates caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.  Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and patients' rights.  Identifies, analyzes, and resolves patient care issues to foster significant improvement in patient care.  Dictates and documents an accurate and timely manner.  Maintains provision of preventive health services.  Conducts or participates in daily multidisciplinary rounds.  Triages patients.  Shares clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel and collaborates with other healthcare disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.

Qualifications:

Education MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing required. Licensure/Certification  APRN license in the state of Florida.  National advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board.  Maintains current BLS certification. Experience  Three (3) years nurse practitioner experience in the specific assigned area of specialty.
