Job Description
Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Nutrition Assistant to support our WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program. In this role, you will assist participants by providing nutrition education, determining program eligibility, and supporting daily clinic operations. This position is ideal for someone passionate about community health and helping families access essential nutrition services. Duties 1. Determine program eligibility by a comprehensive assessment (nutrition, social, economic, health, cultural, etc.) of the client and family. 2. Perform screening and nutrition assessment, including height and weight measurements, a health history, and a dietary assessment. 3. Provide direct services and document appropriate referrals to health care and community resources and programs. 4. Educate, counsel, and advise clients using nutrition, health, and community resources to address identified needs by building on individual and family strengths. 5. Determine appropriate food package for participants based on health and nutrition screenings. 6. Issue WIC benefits and educate participants on the use of the WIC benefits; and promote redemption of WIC foods. 7. Provide breastfeeding promotion, education, and support. 8. Explain WIC program policies, procedures, rights, and responsibilities to WIC participants. 9. Assist in the training of new WIC Nutrition Educators by orienting them to clinic procedures. 10. Attend and participate in WIC nutrition meetings, conferences, and committees as assigned. 11. Model professional behavior and the Agency dress code. An Associate's degree in any field, health or nutrition preferred. A minimum of one (1) year of work experience in customer service, healthcare, or a community-based setting. Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 40 pounds. Valid Iowa Driver's license with a clean driving record. Upon hire, must obtain (or have) current Bloodborne Pathogens training.
