Job Alerts Occupational Therapist Position Summary:
The occupational therapist accurately assesses and identifies deficits in a patient's ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) relative to physical, cognitive, and/or psychological impairments. Develops an individualized treatment plan with patient-centered goals that will be accomplished by therapeutic interventions and the use of ADLs. This may include adaptation or modification of the environment or objects within the environment to facilitate engagement and participation.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Performs patient evaluations by establishing an occupational profile, analyzing occupational performance and collaborating with the patient to establish goals geared toward the experiences, values, priorities, and desired outcomes of the client. This process may also include performing relevant systems review and selecting and administering specific tests and measures to obtain data. Establishes an individualized plan of care and selects therapeutic interventions that address the specific impairments identified in the evaluation and in accordance with physician orders. Conducts ongoing reassessment of the patient and their response to treatment. Initiates and manages the discharge plan beginning at the first visit and continuing throughout treatment. Supervises and delegates to ancillary staff and students consistent with state laws and department policy. Completes legible, accurate, and clear documentation within the established timeframe identified in the department policy and procedure and in accordance with accreditation requirements and insurance regulations. Communicates with the patient, family, caregivers, significant others, and members of the health care team to promote maximum benefit of care utilizing AIDET. Assesses educational needs of the patient, family, caregiver, or significant other and provides education to meet those needs. Participates in professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, including in-service meetings, workshops, and by reading current literature concerning scope of practice. Actively participates in quality improvement activities. Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Complies with appropriate and approved safety standards. Functions within scope of practice as defined by the state's practice act. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Qualifications:
Required:
Graduate of an accredited program of occupational therapy. Current State Board of Occupational Therapy licensure. BLS certification.
Preferred:
One year of occupational therapist experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Hands-on experience with computer programs and creative media. Familiarity with ADLs evaluation tools ( e.g. Katz ADL scale, Lawton IADL scale). Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities in a courteous, tactful and poised manner. Current knowledge of treatment theories, practices and techniques per discipline. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and policy and procedures manuals. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Knowledge of occupational health and safety, State DPH standards, ergonomics, workers' compensation, and OSHA regulations. Demonstrated ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
