Jul 22, 2026 Job Description Primary Purpose The School Occupational Therapist provides evaluation, consultation, and direct therapeutic services to students with disabilities whose motor, sensory, self-help, or adaptive skills impact their educational performance. The occupational therapist collaborates with educators, families, and related service providers to support student access to the educational environment and promote independence and participation in school activities. Qualifications Education/Certification Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program Valid Texas license as an occupational therapist granted by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners (TBOTE) Experience Experience working with children or in a school setting preferred Six months experience as an occupational therapist Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of special education procedures and IDEA regulations preferred Knowledge of rehabilitation procedures, activities, and equipment used in occupational therapy Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Major Responsibilities and Duties Evaluation and Assessment Conduct occupational therapy evaluations and re-evaluations for students referred for special education services Interpret assessment data and prepare written evaluation reports Assist ARD/IEP committees in determining eligibility for occupational therapy services Recommend appropriate accommodations, modifications, and interventions based on student needs Therapy Services Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy intervention plans aligned with student IEP goals Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy services in individual, small group, and classroom settings Address fine motor, visual motor, sensory processing, self-help, positioning, assistive technology, and adaptive skill needs Monitor student progress and maintain appropriate documentation of services provided Adjust intervention strategies based on student progress and educational needs Collaboration and Consultation Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and related service personnel to support student success Provide consultation regarding classroom strategies, adaptive equipment, and environmental modifications Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings Train staff on appropriate techniques, accommodations, and use of adaptive equipment as needed Compliance and Documentation Maintain accurate records in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements Complete documentation, progress reports, Medicaid billing, and other required paperwork within established timelines Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and district policies and procedures Professional Responsibilities Maintain professional licensure and required continuing education Participate in district professional development and departmental meetings Demonstrate professionalism, ethical practice, and effective communication skills Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor Working Conditions Mental Demands Maintain emotional control under stress Work with frequent interruptions and deadlines Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and lifting Ability to assist students with positioning and mobility as needed Travel between campuses may be requiredPosition Type:
