POSITION SUMMARY
Provides leadership the process in development, implementation, and coordination of the Occupational Therapy program within the District. Provides screening, evaluation, educational programming and transition planning, therapeutic intervention, and exit planning for students identified with or suspected of having disabilities that interfere with their ability to perform daily life and academic activities. Provides support, recommends strategies, modifications and accommodations to the general educational staff for exceptional students in the classroom. Serves students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) such as evaluating, planning, instruction, and monitoring progress. This position reports to the Director of Division of Exceptional Students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and conducts OT sessions and programs, as indicated by the educational plan. Completes routine paperwork within the prescribed time frames: i.e. IEPs, assessments, progress notes, and Medicaid. Attends designated team meetings and conferences. Contributes OT information and observations to interdisciplinary team members, parents, and physicians as appropriate. Follows the program?s philosophy and guidelines to meet goals and objectives of the students? educational programs. Participates in professional development. Reports on all employees and student-related incident/accidents pertaining to OT. Maintains confidentiality of student information. Assists in ordering and maintaining OT supplies. Keeps abreast of current literature related to OT interventions and general student care and utilizes group and individual therapy skills in the delivery of program services. Provides supervision of non-certified and certified assistant personnel. Conducts and supervises the inspection and proper use of OT equipment. Collaborates with team members to develop caseloads. All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy (OT) from an accredited college or university required. Minimum of 3 years experience. Prior experience in providing Occupational Therapy in a K-12 public school environment, or rehabilitation settings; makes decisions and final recommendations which routinely affect the activities of others. Current license in Occupational Therapy issued by the State of Georgia. Varied independent level of judgment: supervisor is available on an as needed basis. Limited occasional contact required with school personnel (colleagues, school administrators etc.) Limited occasional contact required with the community (parents, outside agencies etc.) Requires excellent teaching, written and verbal skills. Applies technology concepts to improve efficiency and effectiveness of District; must be proficient with computer. Constant (Daily) - to exercise the duty of care and protection of the health, safety, security, welfare, well-being, and best interests of the district's various stakeholders. Normal school setting. May requires travel for off-site locations and school site visits. Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying 20 lbs. or less.
NOTE:
This is a grade 25, 190 day position that pays for experience up to a Step 8
