Job Description

The Sargent Center is currently seeking an OT or COTA for immediate hire. The exact job description will vary depending on qualifications. I. Job Objectives The OT or COTA provides coordinated, comprehensive occupational therapy services for students with disabilities. The COTA will provide services necessary to fulfill the student's individual goals and objectives under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist. II. Responsibilities Program A. To implement goal-oriented treatment programs and design treatment activities when indicated for individuals and/or groups. B. To document student progress throughout the course of treatment and document these findings within progress reports. C. To provide behavioral management intervention according to agency policy. C. To provide consultation services to other professionals/families/agencies was needed. E. To participate in in-service training and dissemination of information in the area of occupational therapy to the school staff, families, and LEAs. F. To participate in transition planning for students. G. OTRs will complete comprehensive evaluations and re-evaluations to determine strengths and areas of need. H. Develop individualized treatment plans for students in collaboration with multi-disciplinary team. I. OTRs will provide supervision to COTAs and work together to develop appropriate treatment plans. Administration A. Maintain work schedule and treatment schedule. B. Assume responsibility for accurate and timely progress monitoring. C. Accurate and timely submission of documentation. D. Accurately maintain student records. E. Actively participate in scheduled staff meetings including full staff, professional, development and supervision. Accountability This position will report to the Occupational Therapy Coordinator as well as to the Director of Special Education. A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant will be supervised directly by an OTR. IV. Job Requirements/Qualifications The Occupational Therapist or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant will have completed the required educational and professional training and will be certified by NBCOT, as well as hold an OT license in the state of Rhode Island. Prior experience in pediatric settings is preferred. The OTR or COTA should have strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with student(s), families, and professional team. They should possess the strength, endurance, and coordination necessary for a physically challenging job. Individuals should have the ability to transfer students or ability to instruct and supervise transfers with available aides.
