Job Description

The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description The Office Assistant (OA) 1 will provide critical administrative support for the Hornell District Office. The OA 1 will be responsible for triaging telephone calls, responding to questions concerning policy or procedures, referring calls to appropriate staff members for technical information, and organizing the flow of paper in the office. The selected candidate will be responsible for periodically checking and responding to or forwarding emails and faxes that are in the main District Office email inbox, and receiving physical mail as directed. The OA 1 will assistant the Hornell District Office with overseeing the environmental Health Programs in Schuyler and Steuben Counties. The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Reassignment or Transfer:
Current New York State employee with permanent or contingent permanent, competitive status as an Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, OR a New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent permanent, competitive, service in a title at or above Grade 4, and deemed eligible for transfer to Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will possess strong verbal and written communications skills, and exhibit excellent organizational skills. They will have the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. They will demonstrate their ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments effectively.
