Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract role dedicated to making a significant difference in a student's educational journey as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. This position is focused on supporting one student for 30 minutes each week, offering your expertise to enhance their independence and confidence in school settings. You will collaborate and communicate with an established Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), ensuring a comprehensive and seamless support system for the student's success throughout the new school year. What you'll do: Deliver targeted Orientation and Mobility instruction to one student, focusing on skill development appropriate for their needs. Assess the student's current mobility skills and tailor lessons to promote safe, effective navigation in the school environment. Partner with the student's TVI to coordinate on strategies, share updates, and develop goals. Provide feedback and recommendations to educational staff and family, enhancing ongoing support and progress. Maintain accurate records of sessions, observations, and progress towards objectives.
What we look for:
Certification and licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS). Experience working within school environments, particularly with students who are visually impaired. Strong communication skills and teamwork approach, especially in collaboration with TVI professionals. Commitment to fostering independence and confidence in school-aged learners.
