Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Step into a fulfilling opportunity as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist working with a dedicated student near Fellsmere, FL. In this impactful contract role, you'll provide specialized O&M services to support a learner for 30 minutes each week during the new school year. You'll collaborate with a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) who assists the student daily, making this a truly team-based educational setting. Your skills and professional expertise will empower a young student to gain greater confidence and independence in navigating their environment. This is a unique chance to make a real difference at a focused, manageable caseload.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS). Experience providing O&M services in educational settings preferred. Strong understanding of techniques supporting visually impaired students. Effective communicator, able to collaborate with TVIs, teachers, and support staff. Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach to individualized instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver 30-minute O&M sessions weekly, tailored to the student's needs. Assess orientation and mobility skills, set achievable goals, and monitor progress. Demonstrate and teach safe travel skills in indoor and community settings. Maintain clear documentation of service sessions and student progress. Work closely with the TVI and educational team to ensure a holistic approach.
