Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Become an essential support for students by providing Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) services in an educational environment for the upcoming 26/27 school year. This full-time, contract opportunity is designed for dedicated professionals who are passionate about fostering independence and safe travel skills for individuals with visual impairments.
Qualifications and Desired Background:
Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Experience working in school settings with students who have visual impairments Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for collaboration with educators, families, and students Familiarity with individualized education plans (IEPs) and documenting student progress Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse student needs Ability to travel between sites as required
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough assessments and develop orientation and mobility training programs tailored to each student's needs and goals Deliver direct instruction in orientation and mobility techniques, including cane skills, street crossings, public transportation, and environmental navigation Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mobility strategies into students' educational plans Educate school personnel and families on orientation and mobility techniques to support student success beyond instructional sessions Maintain accurate records to track progress and prepare reports for IEP meetings Participate in professional development and maintain current knowledge of best practices in the field Enjoy a rewarding contract position with the potential to make a significant difference in students' development and independence.
