Job Description
Please note: Only candidates with biological FIELD experience and ability to travel overnight will be considered. Rocks Bio is seeking staff and associate-level biologists / field technicians for on call work in the Southern California region. The on-call biologist will perform a variety of tasks dependent upon qualifications, such as focused species surveys, biological construction monitoring, general biological surveys, and nesting bird surveys. Our main office is located in San Diego, but we do considerable work in San Bernardino, Riverside, and Imperial counties and are open to candidates from those areas. As this is a variable hour position, we can work around other job and personal commitments; however, the ideal candidate will usually have at least TWO days per week available (for the immediately foreseeable future/remainder of field season). Key Job Responsibilities
- Conduct burrowing owl surveys and nesting bird surveys
- Perform biological compliance monitoring
- Assist with other focused species surveys and reporting (e.g., rare plants, Crotch's bumblebee, California gnatcatcher, least Bell's vireo, etc.)
- Assist with general biological surveys, including vegetation mapping, habitat assessments, species list preparation, etc.
- Assist with wildlife corridor studies and data analysis Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
- One to three years of experience as a field biologist in southern California (consulting preferred)
- Experience serving as a biological monitor on construction projects
- Baseline knowledge of common wildlife and flora of the region
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Experience with GIS software and GPS units/tablets and ability to use technology for data collection
- Ability to perform fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in extreme, inclement weather and/or rugged terrain, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds
- Typical availability of at least 2-3 days per week
- Availability for overnight travel
- Ability to commit to scheduled work dates for upcoming two week window
- Strong communication and organizational skills Aside from possessing the skills outlined above, a positive attitude, flexibility, and a solid work-ethic are key characteristics for the position.
Pay:
